Abstract
Following the release of OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT last year November, a new era of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots is on the horizon. Chatbot, a computer program powered by conversational artificial intelligence, is designated to engage in text-based human communication. The rapid improvements in conversational AI technology have enabled chatbots to develop features for sentiment analysis and response, which demonstrate the potential to replace mental health counselors and psychiatrists in the task of psychotherapy. Despite some limitations that psychologists have yet to addressed, AI chatbots appear to be a boon for adolescent mental health challenges. By thoroughly examining studies in psychology, this essay gives a detailed account of the advantages and shortcomings of AI-powered chatbots in treating adolescent mental health conditions.
