Abstract

This report addresses the critical issue of female labor welfare in the construction industry in China through a case study in Changchun, Jilin province. The research delves into relevant legislation, articles, and proposals for promoting gender equality and equity, the challenges faced by female workers, the state of labor welfare, and the broader goal of promoting gender equality and inclusion within this sector.

Key Findings:

1. Equitable Role Distribution: The construction project in this case study has an equally distributed role division with a female project manager, increasing the awareness of gender equity and fairness in decision-making.

2. Sanitary Concerns: Adequate sanitary facilities are essential to ensure the physical health and wellbeing of female workers, and their cleanliness and maintenance require careful attention.

3. Informal Economy: Many female workers operate within the informal economy, facing job insecurity and a lack of legal protections. Addressing these issues is crucial for ensuring their economic stability and rights protection.3

Recommendations:

1. Sanitary Facilities Improvement: Ensure clean and well-maintained sanitary facilities, conduct regular cleaning, and provide necessary supplies to enhance workers' physical health.

2. Mental Health and Empowerment: Offer comprehensive career training and legal education tailored to female workers, acknowledging their unique psychological and physiological characteristics.

3. Adoption of Gender Audits: Implement gender audits to assess and improve gender equity in the workplace, identifying overlooked issues and fostering a more inclusive environment. Enhance management on informal economy.

This report underscores the significance of promoting gender equality within the construction industry. By addressing these challenges and implementing recommendations, the industry can ensure that female workers enjoy equal rights, protection, and opportunities, further enriching the sector's diversity and fostering a fair and inclusive work environment.
