ABSTRACT

This paper examines thetradition of bride price in rural China, specifically in Jiangxi Province, and its role in perpetuating gender inequality. The custom of bride price, deeply rooted in China's patrilineal and patriarchal system, marginalizes women, exploits them for their brothers' marriages, justifies their free labor, and negatively influences societal perception of women. The paper highlights the need to challenge the custom of bride price to promote gender equality and women's empowerment.
