ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 epidemic, people were discouraged from face-to-face communication, and the corresponding lockdown turned everyone into a sequestered island during the pandemic. This has led to social isolation and increased the prevalence of anxiety disorder. To cope with the lockdown, people used social media as a substitution for in-person social life. While sites like Wechat, Bilibili, and Tiktok offer essential opportunities for teenagers' social life, Studies have also indicated a link between the overuse of social media and anxiety disorder. This paper will focus on the impact of social media on teenagers, propose several possible explanations of the relationship between social media and anxiety disorder, and finally discuss solutions to cope with anxiety disorder caused by online socializing during the pandemic.
